Juniors Had a Bumper Year

Broadbeach United Juniors have had a bumper year, with record numbers of new recruits.

The club has fielded more teams than last year and has a swag of youngsters coming through, epitomised by our five Under 6 and three Under 7 teams.

On top of that, our older juniors have had a stellar year on the paddock. The Under 13 finished the season as undefeated premiers and are on-track to make their grand final.

The Under 12s, following on from their grand final victory last year, went up a division this year and have made the finals yet again.

Our Under 11s — made up mostly of Under 10 players — are on fire and finished equal top on points but second on goal averages, and they too are among the finals now.

But it is the long term future of the club that looks so promising. We have a huge number of Under 10s and they are progressing really well. Next year, when they move into the full-field ranks we will probably have to grade the players to get the balance right across multiple teams. Until now we have only ever had one team in each age group so it hasn't been an issue.

One of the real highlights this season has been the socialising among parents. The Broady club prides itself on being a family place and it has been great to see brothers, sisters, mums and dads (as well as quite a few grandparents) enjoying a laugh together either over a coffee on a Saturday or even in the clubhouse over a drink on a training night.

The end of season visit by Gold Coast United players proved a great treat, with hordes of kids lining up for autographs after the stars had joined in training and practice games. International goalie Glen Moss spent 40 minutes with our Under 11, 12 and 13 goalkeepers with special coaching.

Junior director Dave Hortz again did a mammoth job organising things every week and it is great to see a few new parents chipping in to help. Many hands have made light work this season.

We have had a few of senior players, Adam, James and Joel, really help out a lot with coaching and would love to see more seniors lend a hand next year.
