FAQ:
What days are the games?
Under 6s to Under 13s play Saturday mornings. Under 14s and 15s play Friday nights.
What days are training?
This is determined by each team in consultation with the coach. Largely it is decided by the coach's availability as they are all volunteers. Younger teams tend to train once a week while older teams twice a week. Most teams like to train Tuesdays and/or Thursdays after school but this has to be balanced against ground availability. The final decision will rest with the junior committee if there is a problem. Training tends to go for one hour.
How far afield do the teams play?
Gold Coast Soccer sets the draw and tries to keep geographically close teams in the same fixture list, but this can depend on the other clubs having similar numbers of teams in the same age groups. Generally up to Under 10s Broadbeach travels mostly around Southport, Burleigh and Nerang districts with Coomera, Palm Beach, Runaway Bay included as needed. The older age groups tend to travel wider — Mt Tamborine and Kingscliff for example, but still with plenty of local games. All competitions are home-and-away so there are equal number of games at Broadbeach as there are away.
How much is it?
The 2011 fees are yet to be determined but last year it was $255 per player with a discount of $10 for erach extra child from the same family. We are not anticipating a significant increase in fees this year.
What do the fees cover?
All your registration and affiliation fees with Gold Coast Soccer and Football Australia; referees fees; all training and games; insurance; club overheads and equipment; trophies; ground maintenance etc. Each player also receives a ball. There is a one-off fee at the beginning of the season and then no more to pay.
Do I need a uniform?
The club will provide a playing shirt for the year, to be returned at the end of the season. Blue shorts and socks are able to be purchased through the club. Shin pads and soccer boots are also requirements for all games and training.
How old does a child have to be to play soccer at Broadbeach?
Gold Coast Soccer regulations insist a child must have turned five years of age to take the field. Four-year-olds have to wait another year unfortunately. Competition starts with Under 6 teams.
Are the rules modified for the little kids?
There is a format called Small Sided Games for Under 6 and 7 (half sized fields, four-a-side, no goalkeepers); Under 8 and 9 (slightly larger field, seven-a-side); Under 10-11 (three-quarter field, nine-a-side, goalkeeper); Under 12 and older (full competition rules, 11-a-side, offside rule played, etc).
My child has never played before, does that matter?
Broadbeach prides itself on its inclusiveness. Beginner or inexperienced players are welcomed as much as future Socceroos. Individual and team development are our goals. Coaches are encouraged to keep all types of players involved and stimulated. However all players, regardless of experience or skill level are expected to attend training, participate fully and give it their best. Soccer is not a child minding service.
Can I call someone to ask more specific questions?
